Enhanced Commuter Benefits: Full Features Breakdown

Currently, 33% of U.S. employers require full-time in-office work, a figure expected to increase by 2025¹ as major companies mandate a return to office. As this trend grows, commuting is once again a significant daily challenge and expense for employees, turning a once-forgotten routine into a time- and money-intensive reality. Rethinking commuter benefits is essential to provide employees with a smoother, more affordable transition back to in-office work. At HealthEquity, we’re dedicated to easing this shift with solutions that reduce financial strain, promote commuter flexibility, and support sustainability. We’re excited to introduce a product enhancement next quarter to help employees navigate this renewed daily journey with ease.

Enrolling in Commuter Card Election Just Got Easier

Rev up your employees’ pre-tax commuter savings by offering seamless commuter card elections for parking or transit during open enrollment, new hire enrollment, or through bulk uploads for larger groups. Tailored for the COM model, this enhanced feature enables employees without an active commuter card election to set up transit and/or parking benefits alongside other annual benefit selections, helping to maximize pre-tax savings. With upgraded Program Sponsor File (PSF) integration, employers can efficiently capture and securely transmit these commuter elections to HealthEquity, simplifying benefits administration for both ongoing and large-scale enrollments.

Members benefit from:

  • Convenient first-time elections for Commuter benefits: Employees can now select commuter benefits during Open Enrollment, or a company return to work action, eliminating the need to revisit this decision each month and helping to maximize their pre-tax savings from day one.

  • Flexible modification options: Employees retain control over their commuter benefits through the HealthEquity member portal, allowing adjustments to transit and parking elections anytime throughout the year.

Employers benefit from:

  • Streamlined administration: Including commuter benefits in the enrollment file reduces administrative complexity and saves time. Employers simply add transit or parking options within their benefits selection platform, while HealthEquity manages the processing. Enhanced PSF integration further simplifies this process, delivering a more efficient and user-friendly benefits experience.
